The Bays Precinct
Urban Transformation Program
About The Bays Precinct program
Sitting just two kilometres west of the Sydney CBD, The Bays Precinct comprises 5.5 kilometres of harbourfront, 95 hectares of largely government-owned land, and 94 hectares of waterways in Sydney Harbour.
The Bays Precinct will transform over the next 20 to 30 years into a bustling hub of enterprise, activity and beautiful spaces. Located within the iconic Sydney Harbour, the area will be enjoyed by Sydneysiders and the global community alike. It is an opportunity to create stunning waterfront destinations and to deliver the kind of public spaces, promenades and workplaces that we can all be proud of.
But it is potentially much more than that: it represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to deliver innovation and attract the jobs of the future for Sydney and NSW, equipping Sydney for the future and reinforcing its reputation as an internationally-competitive, resilient and prosperous global city to live, work and visit.
The Bays Precinct Urban Transformation Program is a whole-of-government approach being led by UrbanGrowth NSW, and includes the following government agencies: Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, Department of Planning and Environment, Department of Premier and Cabinet, Infrastructure NSW, Government Property NSW, Transport for NSW including Roads and Maritime Services, Treasury NSW, Port Authority of NSW and NSW Trade and Investment. By bringing the planning and development work into one office there is one voice, one plan and one vision for government.
The Bays Precinct project team is also collaborating with NSW Health and the NSW Department of Education.
The Bays Precinct Urban Transformation Program builds upon work by The Bays Precinct Implementation Committee and The Bays Precinct Taskforce, as well as contributions from the local community made in past years.
